BC Eeks Out Win Against the Minutemen 24-14

Though many fans have already penciled the BC Eagles football team in at 7-0 following their stunning win against then-#15 Georgia Tech in week three, Eagle fans were wary of an upset in what turned out to be a crazy weekend for college football.

First Half
During the first half of the game, the BC defense successfully shut down the Minutemen offense and the BC offense was able to put 17 points on the board. Callender led the team most of the way in a dramatic shift of philosophy for the BC offense that had taken 400+ yard passing days for Matt Ryan for granted. Though the Minutemen certainly did not look overwhelmed by the Eagles, they certainly were unable to gain much ground during the first half.

Second Half
The Minutemen made some adjustments during the second half and came out swinging, scoring 14 unanswered points and bringing the UMASS team to within 3 points of the Eagles. Most of the fans who had made the trip from the Amherst area cheered very loudly, at some points it appeared as though there were more Minutemen fans than Eagle fans. Shortly after the touchdown, Baldwin and the BC Cheerleaders pumped the BC crowd up and got everybody cheering for the team, an effort that seemed to help the BC offense score on the next drive and get ahead of the minutemen by 10 points. That would prove enough for the Eagles to finish the day out with a win, albeit a surprisingly close one.

BC now moves to 5-0, their best start since the 1954 season during which the team went 8-1. BC's next 2 games are against Bowling Green & at Notre Dame (0-5). We can hope that Coach Jagz will make sure that the Eagles don't come close to getting upset in either of these games.

Update: BC is now ranked #7 by the AP Poll and #6 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll; this is the highest they have been ranked since the 1992 season.
